Eduardo Tanur, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Eduardo Tanur received his certification as a periodontist at Baylor College of Dentistry in 1992. To become a periodontist, he completed additional specialty training after receiving his degree as a general dentist. He started this practice in 2001 to provide the best possible results for patients in a friendly and caring atmosphere.
Dr. Tanur is committed to using the latest technology and minimally invasive treatments. He regularly implements new technology into the practice and stays abreast of all the latest technical developments through extensive continuing education.
Dr. Tanur expanded the practice in 2010 when he brought on Dr. Ruben Ovadia. They became partners and formed Dallas Periodontal Associates.
Dr. Tanur has received numerous awards and recognitions from his peers as a top periodontist. He attributes this to a combination of providing the highest quality treatment and really caring about his patients’ lives.
“Our patients’ overall well-being is very important to me,” he says. “I always take the time to educate them on what we are going to do so they know what is going to happen and feel comfortable. I make sure we give them the tools to care for their oral health at home, and we follow up with them after treatment to ensure they can preserve their health over the long term.”
Kind and patient
Our patients really like Dr. Tanur’s kind and patient nature and his willingness to explain everything that is going on and what is going to happen with their treatments. This makes them feel very much at ease and they can tell he really cares about them.
What made him decide to become a periodontist
Dr. Tanur has always had a desire to help people change their lives, and his first exposure to how this could be done was in his father’s medical practice in Mexico City. He became very interested in the health sciences and looked for where he could create a meaningful change. He chose periodontics because he saw that he could do something significant for a patient’s physical health and build their self-confidence at the same time by cosmetically enhancing their smile.
Education and advanced education
Dr. Tanur did his undergraduate training at the Technological University of Mexico and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Science degree in 1989.
He then completed a postgraduate training at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry and earned his certification as a periodontist and a Masters Degree in oral biology in 1992. Dr. Tanur was Baylor’s first-ever international student to be accepted for training as a periodontist.
Researcher and educator
Dr. Tanur has researched the relationship between smoking and gum disease and had his work published in the Journal of Periodontology.
From 1996 to 2001 he served as an associate professor for periodontal students at Baylor College of Dentistry and currently serves as faculty in the department of restorative sciences. In addition to his work with Baylor students, he has lectured to practitioners in the Southwest U.S. and Latin America.
Honors and awards
Dr. Tanur is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. This is an award earned only after passing a thorough and rigorous exam on all aspects of periodontics. Only 10% of periodontists have earned this distinction.
He has been chosen by his peers and featured in Texas Monthly magazine consistently since 2004 as a “Texas Super Dentist” and one of “America’s Best Dentists.” He has been featured regularly since 2007 in D magazine as one of the best periodontists in Dallas.
