Periodontist Eduardo Tanur

Dr. Tanur has received numerous awards and recognitions from his peers as a top periodontist. He attributes this to a combination of providing the highest quality treatment and really caring about his patients’ lives.

“Our patients’ overall well-being is very important to me,” he says. “I always take the time to educate them on what we are going to do so they know what is going to happen and feel comfortable. I make sure we give them the tools to care for their oral health at home, and we follow up with them after treatment to ensure they can preserve their health over the long term.”

Kind and patient

Our patients really like Dr. Tanur’s kind and patient nature and his willingness to explain everything that is going on and what is going to happen with their treatments. This makes them feel very much at ease and they can tell he really cares about them.

What made him decide to become a periodontist

Dr. Tanur has always had a desire to help people change their lives, and his first exposure to how this could be done was in his father’s medical practice in Mexico City. He became very interested in the health sciences and looked for where he could create a meaningful change. He chose periodontics because he saw that he could do something significant for a patient’s physical health and build their self-confidence at the same time by cosmetically enhancing their smile.

Education and advanced education

Dr. Tanur did his undergraduate training at the Technological University of Mexico and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Science degree in 1989.

He then completed a postgraduate training at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry and earned his certification as a periodontist and a Masters Degree in oral biology in 1992. Dr. Tanur was A&M’s first-ever international student to be accepted for training as a periodontist.

Researcher and educator

From 1996 to 2001 he served as an associate professor for periodontal students at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry and currently serves as faculty in the department of restorative sciences. In addition to his work with A&M students, he has lectured to practitioners in the Southwest U.S. and Latin America.
