What should I expect on my first visit?

Dr. Ovadia and Dr. Tanur and our friendly staff strive to make your first visit as pleasant and efficient as possible. You will be made to feel at home from the moment you arrive.

During your first visit, the doctor will conduct a thorough exam using state-of-the-art equipment to get an accurate view of the condition of your teeth, gums and supporting bone structure.

The doctor will find out about your smile goals and any concerns. He will go over your results, taking the needed time to fully explain your treatment options and answer any questions. You will be provided with a detailed written treatment plan based on your needs and smile goals.

Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect on your first visit.

New Patient Exam

A Friendly welcome

We will get you started by having you complete the initial paperwork and answering any questions you may have.

Precise diagnostics

Our use of high-tech diagnostic equipment helps our doctors get accurate results that can be viewed right away. We will take digital X-rays of your teeth and gums as well as X-rays of sections of your bite. We will also get a full panoramic X-ray of your entire mouth.

The digital images are instantly processed and uploaded onto a monitor, so that you and the doctor can view them together. Digital X-rays provide sharper images and emit 80% less radiation than traditional X-rays.

State-of-the-art 3D CT Scan

Should your treatment include dental implants or bone grafting, we will take a 3D CT scan to give the doctor a 360-degree view of your teeth, gums and jaw. Our 3D CT scanner allows the doctor to view these structures without using invasive procedures. The sharp images rendered by the CT scanner allow the doctor to plan your implant placement and other treatments with precision.

Dr. Ovadia or Dr. Tanur will review the results of your X-rays and other information that you have provided and will then conduct a thorough oral examination.

Comprehensive oral exam and cancer screening

The doctor will inspect your gums, teeth and bite. He will gently probe the depth of the pockets under your gumline to assess the extent of any gum disease. The doctor will also determine the stability of your teeth by checking whether you have any teeth that are loose. He will also check the alignment of your bite and the amount of gum tissue surrounding your teeth.

The doctor conducts a visual and manual exploration of your head, neck and mouth to check for any lesions or other tissue abnormalities. If he locates anything in your mouth that could potentially be a sign of disease, including oral cancer, he will use a special oral cancer screening device called a VELscope® to get a more precise view of the tissue areas.

Understanding your treatment options

After your exam, the doctor will talk to you about what he has discovered and will thoroughly explain your treatment options. The doctors will show you X-rays, instructional videos and charts to give you a good understanding of how their recommended procedures will work. You will have a full description of your treatment plan in writing so that you can work out the scheduling of your visits.
